Google Maps has now been around for 15 years

Google Maps has been with us for fifteen years now, it was the 15th year anniversary yesterday and to celebrate this, it now has a new icon. Gone is the map icon and we actually return to a pin icon, which one of the very early versions had, but this time with more colour.

Not just the icon has changed however, Google has added a few new features to the web version and the app versions. Both the iOS and Android versions now have the new icon and there are some new tabs with “contribute” and “updates” which is surfacing the social aspect, where users have been able to follow other users and submit content to Google Maps.

Also, coming soon is the ability for users to submit information about if a certain train or bus is busy and full of people.
