In the most recent betas of iOS 16, Apple seems to have added support for Apple Pay to work on third-party browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Since Apple Pay was launched back in 2014, it has only be available to use on the web via Safari on iOS, macOS and iPadOS.

However, with the ongoing development to iOS 16 since June, Apple has now seemingly added support for Apple Pay for third party browsers on iOS 16 and iPadOS 6. As of the most recent iOS 16 developer beta 4, users have noticed that Apple Pay is available on Mozilla Firefox too.

As it is well known, third party browsers on iOS aren’t really doing anything special, they are simply reskinned versions of Safari as Apple enforces that any browsers on the App Store have to use WebKit and the Safari rendering engine. This explains why some other users have noticed that Apple Pay is still unavailable on Edge and Chrome for macOS.

iOS 16 should be available next month alongside the new iPhone 14 series and iPadOS 16 might be delayed until October.
