MG announces brand new MG 4 electric hatch with 280 miles range

SAIC has recently announced the new design for the upcoming MG 4, called the MG Mulan in the company’s home country of China. The MG 4 will be an all electric hatchback which will go head to head with the Volkswagen ID.3 and Nissan Leaf. If MG’s current models are anything to go by, the price will be pretty competitive.

MG is currently testing the MG 4 for the European market and it will be coming to the area by Q4 2022. UK sales are due to Starr in early 2023.

The MG 4 rivals the VW ID.3 and steers away from the popularity of SUVs in the market, with a more hatchback like design. It is 4,287mm long, 1,836mm wide and 1,506mm tall which sits it in the middle of the hatchback segment.

The MG 4 will based on the MSP platform with the battery pack sitting underneath. This platform can house batteries from 40kWh to 150kWh, thanks to the thinness of the battery pack. MG will be offering two different battery sizes, the base model will have a 51kWh pack with up to 217 miles of range. The higher spec model will have a 64kWh pack with up to 280 miles of range. 0-60mph will be handled in around eight seconds, with a top speed of 99mph.

MG has not yet confirmed any other specifications or prices, but prices are estimated to be around £28,000-£30,000.
