Volkswagen discontinues Passat saloon, but estate version still offered

Volkswagen has taken the decision to discontinue the saloon version of the Passat, with only the Estate remaining on sale. The company has said that sales of the newer Arteon are higher and sales of the Passat Estate are higher too. Customers can now no longer order a brand new one and production ceased in December 2021.

The Passat was last refreshed in 2014 with a new one expected in 2023, sitting on the MQB platform. Volkswagen offers two very similar vehicles, the Arteon and the Passat, both are around the same size, the only difference being the lack of a plug in hybrid, which was offered with the Passat saloon, however this remains available for the Estate.

For those looking for a Volkswagen large saloon, the Arteon is offered but is more expensive than the outgoing Passat Saloon.
