OnePlus 8 launch event – everything you need to know

OnePlus 8 launch event – everything you need to know

OnePlus revealed its new series of smartphones today, April 14th. The event was fully remote, which was streamed to people across the world.

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro

Two phones where unveiled; The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The Pro model is the pricier version with top of the range specifications.

The designs are somewhat similar to the 7 Pro and 7T Pro, keeping the sleek edge to edge curved display. A few new things to note are the new hole-punch selfie camera to replace the pop-up camera in previous devices, as well as the 120Hz display for a smoother scrolling experience. This year the cameras have had a major upgrade, including a new quadruple setup on the Pro model.

The OnePlus 8 Pro is said to have the “highest spec display in the universe” by the company themselves.

Sadly we did not see a ‘Lite’ model in this release like we expected – although this could come at a later date.

Warp Charge 30 wireless

The company’s new Warp Charge 30 wireless is the fastest wireless charging solution to date. OnePlus say a 23-minute charge can give you up to 50% power.

5G capability

OnePlus has partnered with Qualcomm to give 5G capability, achieving multi gigabit speeds. Both devices will be 5G ready on launch.

Bullets Wireless Z

These are an update on the Bullets Wireless 2 which were released in May 2019. The Bullets Wireless Z support Bluetooth 5.0 and have the ability to quickly pair with OnePlus phones.

These earbuds only need a 10-minute charge to allow up to 10 hours of audio playback; They have up to 20 hours playback from a full charge. IP55 water resistance has been certified for these earphones, meaning they should be able to withstand light rain but may not be so reliable in harsh conditions.

The buds will come in four colours: Black, blue, mint and oat.
