The all new Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo is available to order now with prices from £46,621 in the UK. The new all electric van is based on the existing ID. Buzz multi purpose van/people mover and is aimed at businesses. The base model has plastic bumpers and strips away unnecessary additions, pay more and get extra paint options, wireless CarPlay and such lavish items as a reversing camera.

The base model is listed as £46,621, but take away the VAT and it comes to £38,125, which isn’t too bad considering the price of brand new combustion vans at the moment. The ID. Buzz Cargo is Volkswagen’s first proper all electric van, after many years of loosely electrified Transporters.

The 77kWh battery pack helps give it 256 miles of range. The competing vans such as the Citroen e-Dispatch and Vauxhall Vivaro-e both have a bit less, at 205 miles of range. The motor is a 201bhp unit, with 310Nm of torque and is driving the rear wheels, which is pretty unique for a van.

For the loading, around the back is either a single top hinged tailgate, similar to a Volkswagen California, or it can be had with the more traditional twin door opening. The ID. Buzz Cargo has a maximum payload of 650kg, but later down the line the ID. Buzz Cargo will be available in a longer body style.

So far, the ID. Buzz Cargo is available in two trim levels, Commerce and Commerce Plus. The entry level model has LED headlights, three front seats, front and rear parking sensors, USB-C ports throughout the cabin, large 10-inch touchscreen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (this is wired, not wireless). The driver display is a 5.4-inch screen. Optional extras include the ‘Buzz Box’ which sites where the middle seat would be and is a useful place for storing items.

For the Commerce Plus, this adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, park assist, keyless entry, adaptive cruise control and an abundance of safety systems including Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Side Assist and Emergency Assist.
