Ford has introduced the all new fifth generation Mondeo which for the first time since the model was introduced will be only sold in China. Ford will stop offering the current Mondeo here in the UK later this year in March.

Ford has been offering the Mondeo over in China since 2002, but going forward the car will now only be offered there. Ford unveiled the new version at the company’s China Design Centre in Shanghai.

First deliveries to customers will start in Q2 2022 and is the result of a new joint venture between Ford and Changan, a Chinese company based in Chongqing.

The new Mondeo has a nice new modern design, with mustang inspired rear lights, full width rear light bar, slip headlights and a coupe body style.

Inside, there is a huge 27-inch touchscreen for infotainment as well as a 12.3-inch digital display for the driver. The software being run is Sync+ 2.0 with some extra Baidu add ons.

In terms of engine, unfortunately there isn’t an all electric version but there is a 1.5-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre petrol with a maximum of 238bhp. Ford is planning on a plug in hybrid version to be available down the line, but specs are as yet unknown.
