Toyota has recently announced the new Hilux GR Sport, a new top of the range trim level for the Hilux which adds some unique Dakar rally themed aesthetics as well as some performance upgrades.

On the outside, the grille now has a TOYOTA word across it, rather than the usual company logo – this is a hark-back to the fourth generation Hilux from the 80s. Also there are new 17-inch alloy wheels and black door mirrors.

Inside, there are GR branded seats, carpet mats and starter button to help differentiate the GR model from the others. The GR logo is also on the steering wheel, as are aluminium pedals and wheel mounted gear shifters.

Mechanically, Toyota has added new monotube shock absorbers for faster damping as well as stiffer front springs to help with cornering.

The new Hilux GR Sport is due to go on sale in the UK later in January for £37,551 excluding VAT. First deliveries will start in the summer.
