Toyota has today announced the new Aygo X, the replacement of the outgoing standard model and now in its third generation. The Aygo X has been raised, with an SUV like look, complete with canvas roof that is retractable and extra cladding on the bodywork.

The Aygo X is now 55mm taller and also sits on an all new platform, with a 325mm longer wheelbase meaning more bootspace is offered, up to 60 litres more. Thanks to a wide track too, there is 125mm in additional width which will provide better shoulder room on the interior.

On the interior, the quality and kit on offer has improved, with a new 9-inch infotainment screen offered with Apple CarPlay as well as wireless smartphone charging and ambient lighting.

In terms of engines, Toyota is only offering the one – a non hybrid 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol, with 71bhp. It can be had with either a five speed manual or automatic gearbox.

The new Aygo X will go on sale in the first half of next year, with prices starting from around £14,000.
