Jeep has announced a new version of the Grand Cherokee a few days ago, now in its fifth generation the new model is going to be made available as a hybrid for the first time and its coming to the UK as a 4xe plug-in hybrid. For the new model, Jeep has developed an all new platform the Grand Cherokee, making the hybridisation now possible.

In the 4xe models, the Grand Cherokee has a 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine, an eight sped automatic gearbox and a 17kWh battery. This system works to power all four wheels, so the Grand Cherokee can still go off road and produces 370bhp. The EV only mode can take it 25 miles.

Over in the US, the Grand Cherokee is a bit more fruity in terms of engines, it’ll be available with a 3.6-litre V6, producing 289bhp and a 5.7-litre V8m with 352bhp.

Inside, there is a large 10.1-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and in the back, a new rear seat media system with Fire TV integrated.

The new Grand Cherokee will go on sale here in the UK later next year. Prices are due to be announced.
