Volkswagen has launched the new eHybrid version of the Golf this week, marking the second plug-in hybrid version of the car so far. The eHybrid is only available in the entry level Style trim of the Golf Mk8 so far, has 201bhp and costs from £32,995 in the UK. This model is very similar to the already existing Golf GTE, which has been on sale for while.

The eHybrid has a 1.4-litre petrol engine, six speed automatic gearbox, does 0-60mph in 7.4 seconds and can reach a 137mph top speed. Being a plug-in hybrid it can run in electric only mode, up to 44 miles, which is enough for most people’s to and from commute journeys. When in the electric only mode, the top speed is reduced down to 80mph.

Volkswagen includes the Golf e-Hybrid with a 10A charging cable, allowing the car to be recharged from 0% to 100% in around five hours, from a standard three pin socket. Like any hybrid or electric car, you’ll find regenerative braking here too.

The Golf Mk8 e-Hybrid is on sale now, from £32,995 in the Style trim and comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless start, leather steering wheel, road sign recognition and much more.
