The Volkswagen Group is now facing a fine of over €100 million / £88 million for failing to see the CO2 emissions target in the EU. The VW Group is collectively one of the largest car groups in the world, counting Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Ducati and more and not many of the companies that sit under VW have electric cars on the market yet, such as Lamborghini.

Even with the fine, the VW Group did manage to cut its overall CO2 emissions by 20% in 2020, but it was over by 0.5g/km at 99.8g/km. A VW spokesperson commented on the fine, calling it a:

“very low triple-digit million amount.”

VW CEO, Herbet Diess said that the coronavirus pandemic had a part to play, saying:

“We narrowly missed the fleet target for 2020, thwarted by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The company has new electric cars out, Audi has its e-tron line of SUVs, Volkswagen now has the ID.3 and ID.4 and notably, both VW and Audi met its targets for CO2.
