Picture-in-Picture

iOS 9 has brought along many new features such as battery improvements, new News app, a more intelligent Siri and Multitasking on the iPad. With this release Apple have heavily focused on the iPad experience and making use of the screen real estate. The operating system does a few new things to aid multitasking and productivity on iPad – one of which is Picture in Picture. This allows any video (provided the app is supported) to be played in a small window over any other app on the iPad – for instance the works with FaceTime, so you can carry on talking to the person while still seeing them and then find that funny picture on Instagram they are on about.

A number of app developers have added support for Picture in Picture, while this is an optional feature – developers seem to have jumped on board. Now the BBC have added support for it in iPlayer as have Hulu, Pocket and MLB.com at Bat.

Picture in Picture works with iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro.
